Empire State Chapter Proudly Endorses Marc Molinaro for Governor

ALBANY, NY – The Empire State Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, representing more than 425 merit shop contractors across New York State, through its Political Action Committee, proudly announces its endorsement of Marc Molinaro for Governor.
“The state of New York is at a crossroads. It’s mired in corruption, has some of the worst outmigration of any state in the country, and its tax burden strangles those that remain,” said Brian Sampson, President of the Empire Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors. “What we need now, more than ever, is someone that will put politics aside and do what’s best for all New Yorkers. And that person is Marc Molinaro and we are proud to endorse him for Governor of this great state.”

The Association believes that Molinaro, because of his experience in local and state government, is the only candidate that will fight for sensible reforms and mandate relief while supporting fair and open competition.

“I want to thank Brian and the entire membership of the Empire Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) for their trust. New York is at a crossroads and I am proud to stand together with the members of ABC as we chart a new path that will bring jobs and opportunity to hardworking families throughout our state,” Molinaro said.

Over the past eight (8) years, the Association and its members have watched as the current Governor has utilized every tool at his disposal to steer work toward his union donors. From costly and discriminatory Project Labor Agreements (PLA) to Labor Peace Agreements (LPA), Andrew Cuomo has cheated New York taxpayers and created a public health crisis as it relates to our water infrastructure and transportation needs. He has excluded hundreds of local contractors from bidding these projects and barred hundreds of thousands of local workers from being able to work on projects they pay for with their tax dollars. Governor Cuomo’s undying commitment to labor is deeply troubling because his priorities rest with his campaign account and not his constituency.
“We support fair and open competition, not politicians who favor rewarding campaign donors at the expense of every day New Yorkers,” said Sampson. “Marc Molinaro is an honest, caring man that wants nothing but the best for our state. He’s seen first-hand the negative impact of poor economic, tax and regulatory policy decisions that emanate from Albany. He will do what’s right for our future. We’re proud to endorse Marc and encourage voters to support him on Election Day. It’s time to believe again!”

What’s Pushing Prevailing Wage Into The ‘Big Ugly’

By |June 11th, 2019|Categories: ABC Press Release, Statewide|

A lack of public hearings on the issue and the rush to get the bill passed by the end of session also means that final details of the bill will be determined behind closed doors, according to Brian Sampson, president of Empire Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. “The potential impact of this bill, as drafted, could stop economic development in parts of this state for a long time,” he said. “Why aren't we talking about this bill more openly, and having more discussions and dialogue about it, instead of wrapping it up with a pretty little bow in the ‘Big Ugly?’”

Union Requirement Inflates Cost of State Fair Bridge

By |May 23rd, 2019|Categories: News, Statewide|

A shortage of bids on the New York State Fairgrounds pedestrian bridge project will leave New Yorkers paying more, but getting less. When plans for the project were released with an accompanying project labor agreement (PLA), the playing field narrowed from 20 companies interested in the project to just two submitting bids, with the lowest bid coming in well in excess of $1 million over engineering estimates. Why the drastic decrease in competition and increase in costs? The answer can be found in three simple letters: PLA.

Another Voice: Benefits Add Hidden Costs to Prevailing Wage Projects

Let’s not be fooled. Proponents of the expansion of prevailing wage are already doing great damage to taxpayers. They shouldn’t be allowed to ruin what little positive job growth we now have in New York.

Trade War: Find Out How The Tariffs Are Impacting New York Businesses and Consumers

By |May 17th, 2019|Categories: Federal Update, News, Statewide|

“What’s clear is that some contractors will have to deal with cost overruns that they can’t pass on to their customers,” said Brian Sampson, president of the Associated Builders & Contractors of New York. “But in most cases, the increased cost of the tariffs will be passed on to customers resulting in more expensive construction projects or higher costs for capital goods.”
