Empire State Chapter Endorses Keith Wofford for Attorney General

ALBANY, NY – The Empire State Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, representing more than 425 merit shop contractors across New York State, through its Political Action Committee, announced its endorsement of Keith Wofford for Attorney General.

“We believe that Keith, unlike his opponent, has a high moral compass and the integrity to do what is right for the people of this state,” said Brian Sampson, President of ABC, Empire State. “Unlike his opponent, he will apply a fair and even hand to the laws and regulations and not let any campaign donors, or the Governor, dictate the positions his office will enforce. Keith Wofford is the only Attorney General candidate that will lead New York to a better future.”

The Association believes that Keith Wofford will fight for sensible regulatory reforms and a reduction in regulations while supporting fair and open competition. As a native of Upstate New York, Mr. Wofford has seen first-hand the devasting impact that an overzealous, ultra-regulatory government can have on a community. He knows that revitalizing the economy for the entire state is critical to the survival of small businesses and will encourage more families to call New York state home.

“We support fair and open competition, not politicians who favor funding their campaign accounts over serving their constituency,” said Sampson. “We are proud to endorse Keith Wofford for Attorney General and encourage voters to support him on Election Day.”

“It’s not shocking, this is a pattern that we have seen with public works projects across New York state that are bid with project labor agreements,” Amanda Bertram, vice president of public affairs for the Associated Builders and Contractors/Empire State, said in a story published Saturday by the Times. “Across the board, they all come in millions of dollars over engineering estimates. This is a trend.” Associated Builders and Contractors is a national trade organization representing those in the construction industry who don’t belong to unions. Ms. Bertram met with City Council members in November to discuss the disadvantages of using PLAs.

On Thursday, Cuomo declared a bill expanding a "prevailing wage" requirement that would apply to larger construction projects likely dead. The law would have expanded the definition of "public works" in New York to include projects receiving more than 30 percent of their funding from the government – making those projects eligible for the wage requirement. Powerful building trades unions, who are among Cuomo's most significant political supporters, had pushed the mandate this session.
