Associated Builders & Contractors, Empire State Chapter President Brian Sampson issued the following statement in response to Governor Cuomo’s comments at the Democratic National Convention that, “anti-labor forces want NYS affordable housing projects to be open shop ‘this hand will never sign that bill.’”

Associated Builders & Contractors, Empire State Chapter President Brian Sampson Statement

“The Governor has repeatedly forgotten his oath to represent ALL New Yorkers, including taxpayers who will see billions of their dollars wasted, because of his desire to appease special interest donors. More than 75% of the construction workforce statewide, including a preponderance of minority workers, choose not to join a union and Governor Cuomo continues to punish them for that choice.

Once again the Governor has reiterated his willingness to extort billions from taxpayers in order to reward his union boss friends.  It’s a pattern that plays out not just in housing but in his economic development projects as well.

It’s time for the Governor to take a step back embrace the reality that while New York may be most unionized state, he still needs to represent the 75% that have made the decision available to them that joining a union is not in their best interest. “
