Other News

In the waning hours of the 2005 legislative session, the state legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill to provide, among other things, an exemption to the Wicks Law for the Syracuse City School District on $174 million worth of school renovation work, but ONLY if the work is contracted under the terms of a PLA.

ABC kicked up one of the largest grassroots efforts, yet, to secure a gubernatorial veto. ABC members wrote letters and made phone calls to the Governor and, through some well-placed news stories, the ultimate result was a resounding veto of Assembly Bill 8699.

When ABC members speak loudly, clearly, and in large numbers that truly reflect the size and scope of the industry they represent, it does make a difference. State legislators and local officials in Syracuse vowed to work with the Governor's office to re-craft a bill that the Governor can support. ABC will need to continue its grassroots effort to get the same message to the legislators that we were able to get to the Governor - and with the same impact!

Our work is far from over, but we got a definite WIN in round # 1. We send our sincere THANKS to all the ABC members who participated in securing this VETO!
