Women In Construction
More than ever, women today are actively making a difference in the business world. Women-owned businesses operate in every sector including manufacturing, construction, agribusiness and retail, as well as high growth industries such as health, business and professional services. The resounding success of women business owners makes them the fastest growing segment of American business.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women comprise about 10% of the construction workforce. The industry is continually recruiting and training women for careers in construction.
According to the US Census Bureau, in 1997, 26.1% of the total businesses in New York State were owned by Women. In 2002 that number pushed up to 28% (majority-owned, privately-held women-owned), and sales approached $59.5 Billion (quoted from a fact sheet published by The National Foundation for Women Business Owners).
The Empire State Chapter's membership includes a number of women-owned businesses.
