IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL

The U.S Senate is set to begin debate on an immigration reform bill this week. It is time for the construction industry to reach out to the Senate to ensure that our industry is provided the workers we so desperately need.

It is imperative that Senators hear from you regarding construction industry specific concerns and needs relating to comprehensive immigration reform. Moreover, it is extremely important to tell Senators that harmful Davis-Bacon Act prevailing wage requirements must not be included in any comprehensive language.

The White House, Senate and House of Representatives are all working on immigration legislation that takes into account the security of America and the needs of the American business. We must make our industry's voice heard and tell the Senate that the time for comprehensive reform is now!

Call your Senator NOW and say:

Ask to speak with the aide responsible for immigration policy. If they ask, tell them your name, the name of your company, and where you live. If the aide is unavailable, ask to leave a message. If you do not know your Senator's phone number, call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected or visit http://www.senate.gov/ for more information.
  • "I'm calling today to tell you that America's current immigration system is broken and ask that Senator [name] work towards a comprehensive immigration reform."
  • "My industry -the construction industry - needs approximately 185,000 new employees a year to fill the growing demand for construction in America."
  • "American workers are simply not there to fill this massive, and ever growing, need for workers in my industry."
  • "Contrary to what many critics say, my industry does not simply want to use immigrant workers as cheap labor. We pay an average starting salary of $21 an hour."
  • "It is imperative that any comprehensive legislation must not contain any expansion of the Davis-Bacon Act. Including this will only slow debate on comprehensive immigration reform."
  • "My industry needs an employee verification system that works and is easy to use for someone in my field of work."
  • "Please pass my comments along to the Senator. Thank you for your time."

SENATE "CARD CHECK" BILL INTRODUCED WITH NEAR MAJORITY SUPPORT

The union's top legislative priority has officially arrived in the Senate. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) has introduced S. 1041, "Employee Free Choice Act of 2007."

With 47 Senators in their pocket as bill sponsors, the unions are dangerously close to having a majority of the Senate behind this disastrous legislation.

NOW is the time for you to make your voice heard! As in the House of Representatives, this bill is moving quickly through the Senate, and your Senator needs to know TODAY how bad this legislation would be for your employees and for your business.

Write your Senator today and tell them to oppose S. 1041!
