Skills USA TeamWorks Competition

Associated Builders & Contractors, Empire State Chapter members generously provided the Skills USA TeamWorks Competition withequipment, materials and awards, valued at more than $6,000.   Many thanks for your outstanding support!  The TeamWorks contest was held April 2, 2009  at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

Eight teams, competed - and the winners are…

1^st Place:  Orleans Career & Tech Center, from Western New York/Niagara! They will advance to the National competition in Kansas City.

2^nd Place: Broome Tioga BOCES, from the Southern Tier, Central NY

3^rd Place: Herkimer County BOCES – Eastern New York Region

Sam Fresina, Tersal Construction (CNY) said this as he witnessed first hand the energy of the competition, “Just amazing…you could see the pride in their faces- just being there…that’s our future out there- and we need to support it!”

TeamWorksis a part of SkillsUSA, a national vocational program that provides experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development.  SkillsUSA activities foster the development of problem-solving ability and teamwork while building self-confidence and communication skills. These are qualities employers value and look for when hiring or promoting workers.
