Rochester, NY – High school students in the Rochester area take a hands-on approach to learning more about construction through the Skilled Trades Program run by ABC member GMR Associates, Inc. in collaboration with the Exploring Division of the Seneca Waterways Council. Once a month students attend a post meeting at an ABC member company and for two hours go through a number of hands on stations exposing them to the different trades. Throughout the session, Explorers are able to ask questions, learning from those who work in the field every day.  Exposure to the various trades gives students an opportunity to help determine if a particular field is of interest.

This unique learning and hands-on opportunity has already provided opportunity to dozens of Rochester area students and continues to grow. This year students have learned by visiting companies like ES Systems, which is a plumbing, HVAC and Fire Alarm contractor; and Gypsum Systems Interiors, a drywall and acoustical contractor.
